The Black Economic Alliance—and its affiliated entities the BEA Foundation, BEA PAC, and BEA Fund (collectively “BEA”)—is a nonpartisan coalition of business leaders and aligned advocates committed to driving economic progress for the Black community through public policy, advocacy, and engagement with government and business leaders. Led by a board that includes executives from a range of industries including media, finance, pharmaceutical, nonprofit, and tech, BEA uses its collective power and business acumen to advance public policies and private sector practices that will improve work, wages, and wealth for Black Americans.

Position Overview

Reporting to the BEA Executive Director, the Special Assistant will be responsible for assisting the Executive Director with running the day-to-day operations of BEA and project management of the various BEA workstreams. The Special Assistant will be a hub of information and communication, and will direct execution of meetings, correspondence, events, and other activities of the Executive Director and BEA. The role calls for an extremely organized task manager who has mastered the duties of an executive assistant and can progressively take on additional project management responsibilities. The Special Assistant must be flexible, innovative, and willing to find solutions to various challenges regularly.


  • Serve as primary executive assistant to the Executive Director, including heavy scheduling
  • Lead follow-up and execution on action items after meetings
  • Prepare the Executive Director for daily meetings and events by obtaining and organizing preparatory documents and information in advance
  • Track, manage, and drive the high volume of BEA projects to timely, high-quality completion 
  • Assist communication with BEA’s board of directors and advisory board on behalf of the Executive Director
  • Respond to incoming requests to the ED and BEA for information, inquiries, and other correspondence within 24 hours of receipt
  • Help lead logistical planning for BEA events, including preparing and circulating briefing materials for speakers and other featured guests in advance
  • Support the Executive Director and BEA board on programmatic matters, including drafting correspondence, proofreading external-facing materials, and note-taking during meetings

  • Four-year degree from an accredited college or university
  • Experience supporting a principal as executive or special assistant
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills
  • Must be a self-starter
  • Meticulous attention to detail with proven ability to work in fast-paced, ever-changing environment
  • Intellectual flexibility to work with a high volume of internal and external partners across a wide range of subject matter areas
  • Consummate team player with a great attitude who is happy to assist with all projects
  • Strong discretion and integrity handling confidential information
  • Must move projects to timely completion working with multiple busy executives who have competing priorities
  • Excellent organization and time-management skills, including ability to multi-task, continually re-prioritize, and self-manage deadlines
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications—Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.—and Adobe Acrobat
  • Experience managing a high volume of incoming requests with few resources
  • Experience in public policy, political engagement, and/or corporate and private foundations preferred

This is a full-time position. The Special Assistant can be located anywhere in the United States, with the potential for the preference to move to the NYC area in mid-late 2021.
