The Black Economic Alliance—and its affiliated entities the BEA Foundation, BEA PAC, and BEA Fund (collectively “BEA”)—is a nonpartisan coalition of business leaders and aligned advocates committed to driving economic progress for the Black community through public policy, advocacy, and engagement with government and business leaders. Led by a board that includes executives from a range of industries including media, finance, pharmaceutical, nonprofit, and tech, BEA uses its collective power and business acumen to advance public policies and private sector practices that will improve work, wages, and wealth for Black Americans.

Position Overview

Reporting to the BEA Executive Director, the Development Director will be responsible for building and executing a fundraising, prospecting, and member engagement strategy for BEA. Working closely with the BEA Executive Director and board of directors, the incumbent will identify prospective partners, create supporting communications collateral, and be the primary liaison between BEA and prospective and current donors to all four of BEA’s entities. The incumbent will significantly grow BEA’s base of support and secure multi-year financing for the organization’s activities. The Director will manage an outside fundraising consultant who focuses on the BEA 501c4 and BEA’s political action committees.

Duties

  • Develop and execute a fundraising strategy for BEA—with a focus on the BEA Foundation
  • Establish and maintain outreach strategy to prospective and existing donors
  • Build strategy for multi-year engagement with corporate, foundation, and individual donors
  • Work with the BEA Executive Director to build and manage an annual budget
  • Plan and carry out fundraising events
  • Support the fundraising efforts of the Executive Director, board of directors, and advisory board
  • Oversee creation of communication collateral for fundraising, including brochures, one-pagers, pitch decks, and other fundraising materials
  • Lead grant-writing and application process to seek funding from foundations
  • Manage a fundraising consultant focused on raising for BEA and the BEA PAC

Qualifications

  • Must embrace the objectives of the Black Economic Alliance
  • Strong contacts with corporate and private foundations and individual donors
  • Track record building and growing a fundraising strategy and/or campaign
  • Four-year degree from an accredited college or university
  • Strong written and verbal communication and collaboration skills
  • Excellent organization and time-management skills, including ability to multi-task, continually re-prioritize, and self-manage deadlines
  • Intellectual flexibility to work with wide range of internal and external colleagues across a wide range of subject matter areas
  • Team player with a great attitude happy to assist with all projects as required
  • Great discretion and integrity handling confidentiality of sensitive information
  • Must be a self-starter
  • Ability to move projects to timely completion working with multiple busy people who have competing priorities
  • Meticulous attention to detail with proven ability to work in fast-paced, ever-changing environment
  • Familiarity with public policy, political engagement, and/or corporate and private foundations

Other

This is a full-time position. The Director of Development can be located anywhere in the United States, with the potential preference to move to the Washington, DC or NYC area eventually.
